Living in Barcelona

La Merce Festival

The last few days Barcelona has been celebrating La Merce. The festival is about 5 days honouring Mare de Deu de la Merce, the Patron Saint of Barcelona. It marks the end of summer and the coming winter months. Streets are filled with parades of Gegants or Giants, devils, the famous Correfoc, and various other traditional festivities. This year my sister and her boyfriend happened to be visiting at the same time, so we made the most of enjoying the long weekend, and seeing as much as possible.

The weekend was full of highlights including watching fireworks on the beach and then stopping at the fair nearby to ride the bumpercars and eat sugar covered churros.
