I have seen this floating around on some of the South African blogs that I follow. It’s the new book project from DayOne, a small publishing house curated and run by Stan Engelbrecht and Stephan le Roux. I loved their previous book Miss Beautiful, which is so fun to pore through, it’s right up MissYucki’s alley. It sits on my shelf in all its pink glory.
The thing that caught my eye with the new project, are the wonderful watercolours of google spot maps where each South African cyclist was photographed. Titled Bicycle Portraits, DayOne have been working with Nic Grobler and artist Gabrielle Raaff. I love how the photography and illustration work seamlessly together to create a strong design. The book is currently on Kickstarter and you can help fund the project via pre-ordering the book. Watch the video and check out their website.
Stan Engelbrecht & Nic Grobler are publishing the best 165 portraits and stories of the over 500 portraits of cyclists they’ve photographed during their 2 year journey around South Africa. Divided over 3 books, each will contain a different 55 stories, and also two essays each by local South African and major international cycling figures.
