I was lucky enough to experience the mania that surrounded the 2010 Football World Cup here in South Africa. I mentioned watching the opening ceremony in a past post, and now I want to share some photographs of the matches I attended. The atmosphere was one of celebration. Flags adorned all the houses and cars, and vuvuzelas could be heard at all hours. I really enjoyed the festive mood in Johannesburg and then later in Cape Town.
The two matches I enjoyed the most were probably Ghana vs Germany (photos) and Spain vs Honduras. There was a great Ghanian band in the stands behind us who played drums and trombones pretty much during the whole match, a little bit more musical than the buzz of vuvuzelas, although actually in the stadium they do’t sound too much like a swarm of angry bees, and they are very fun to blow :)
